PEACE Day with East-West Center's YSEALI

March 21, 2017

On March 21, PAAC teamed up with the East-West Center’s Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) to organize a day of exchange and learning at Kualoa Ranch between high school students in Hawaii and young leaders from Southeast Asia.  Sixteen students from private, public, and charter schools on Oahu and twenty YSEALI fellows from Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia, Philippines, Myanmar, Indonesia, and Malaysia participated in the event.

The day featured a tour of Kualoa Ranch that focused on ecotourism and conservation, cultural songs and dances from each ASEAN country performed by the YSEALI cohort, and a workshop led by a group of YSEALI leaders on crowdfunding and their efforts to create crowdfunding campaigns for social and environmental change in their home countries.

It was an exciting opportunity for PAAC students to learn from and get to know the kind, warm-hearted, and inspiring individuals from our neighbors in Southeast Asia.
