Students Experience New Zealand with PAAC!

March 28, 2016

Sixteen students were pioneers on PAAC’s first Spring Break Study Tour to New Zealand. Students lived in the Wainuiomata Marae in Wellington, where they explored Maori culture, art, and language. They experienced Maori songs, dancing, weaving, carving, and Maori storytelling.

One student said she was “completely captivated by the Maori culture,” and was inspired to be more in tune with her own culture and learn more languages in the future. Another student said, “Prior to going on this trip I was unaware of how passionately involved the Maori are in their old traditions. All that I have experienced has given me insight to how things came to be and how so many things have more meaning than what meets the eye.”

Other highlights of the trip included visits to immersion Maori schools, Maori University, Massey University, and the U.S. Embassy.
