2022 Fall Global Vision Summit
PAAC's Fall Global Vision Summit (GVS) was a daylong statewide event held at Chaminade University’s Ching Conference Center in Honolulu and included simulations and role-play activities for 77 students in grades 9-12 from 18 schools across Hawai‘i.
Students explored the concepts of peace and negotiation around a fictional refugee crisis and learned conflict resolution and diplomacy skills. PAAC’s keynote speaker on multilateral negotiation was Retired U.S. Ambassador Lauren Moriarity, whose career has spanned three decades.
Student Jade Tonaki, from Hawai'i Technology Academy, presented an op-ed to fellow GVS participants addressing this year’s summit theme, where groups developed and proposed solutions to “The Plight of Refugees.” Watch a video on Jade’s presentation here.
“Each organization has expressed different solutions to this problem, yet we have no refugees present to express their own wishes,” she said. “We sit and contemplate solutions, without the one voice that really matters. Shouldn’t we come together with the one true voice that we deserve to hear?”
PAAC hosts two Global Vision Summits each academic year. The second summit will be held in coordination with the annual Academic WorldQuest event on Feb. 11, 2023. Schools from neighbor islands can participate in WorldQuest virtually.
